About Us

We are Calvary Paphos

At Calvary Paphos, we're passionate about God's Holy Word, His people and proclaiming Jesus as our Redeemer.

Our mission

Calvary Paphos began in 2005 as a small gathering in a home. Today, by God’s grace, it thrives as a vibrant, international community, united by God’s Spirit in faith, hope and love, and the teachings of Scripture (the Bible).
Our aim is to fulfill the biblical commission of Colossians 1:28-29,
"Him (Jesus) we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ. For this I toil, struggling with all His energy that He powerfully works within me."
These verses challenge us to
Proclaim Jesus Christ as the Son of God, Saviour and Redeemer of humanity.
Love, teach and admonish everyone in Biblical truths and Christian living.
Disciple believers; baptize, nurture, train and equip each one for ministry.
Do these things with passion, in the power, only the Holy Spirit can provide.

Our beliefs

We believe in the Trinity

We believe there is one and only one living and true God who is sovereign, and the Creator of all things. He eternally exists as three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and each of these persons is fully God and are united as one.

Bible references
Matthew 28:19-20, Deuteronomy 6:4, Genesis 1:1, Hebrews 1:3, Isaiah 44:8, Isaiah 48:16, John 10:30

We believe in God the Father

We believe in the person of God the Father, an infinite, eternal, personal Spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power and love; that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of humanity; that He hears and answers prayer; and that He saves from sin and death all those who come to Him through Jesus Christ.

Bible references
Psalms 90:2, Psalms 102:27, Titus 1:3, John 3:16, John 4:24, 1 Timothy 1:17, Deuteronomy 33:27

We believe in Jesus Christ

We believe in the person of Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten Son, conceived by the Holy Spirit. We believe in His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles and teachings, his substitutionary atoning death upon the cross, bodily resurrection, ascension into heaven, perpetual intercession for His people and personal, visible return to earth.

Bible references
Isaiah 7:14, Micah 5:2, Luke 1:34-35, John 8:58, John 11:25, Matthew 1:23, 1 Timothy 3:16, 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, 1 John 1:2, Mark 16:19, Hebrews 1:8, John 1:1-2, Revelation 1:8

We believe in the Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit was sent by the Father and the Son to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. We believe the Holy Spirit regenerates and indwells and seals every believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, and that he empowers us to live as witnesses for Christ. We believe that all of the gifts of the Holy Spirit are available to his church today.

Bible references
John 14:16–17, John 16:7–11, Titus 3:5–6, Romans 8:9, 1 Corinthians 6:19–20, Ephesians 1:13–14, Acts 1:8, Romans 12:6–8, 1 Corinthians 12–14, 1 Peter 4:10–11

We believe the Bible is God's Word

We believe that the Old and New Testament scriptures are the very words of God, given to humanity as a gift, and revealing the truths we are to believe and to apply to our lives. All Scripture is true, authoritative, and trustworthy in all things pertaining to life and godliness. They are fully inspired by God and without any error in the original texts.

Bible references
2 Timothy 3:16–17, 2 Peter 1:21, John 10:35

We believe God created humanity

We believe that God created human beings, male and female, in his own image. He created them sinless, equal in value, dignity, and worth. According to his purpose and design, men and women are created to fulfill distinct but complementary roles in the contexts of marriage, family, and the local church.

Bible references
Genesis 1:26–28, Ephesians 5:22–6:4, 1 Timothy 3:1–7

We believe in the sacraments Jesus Christ instituted

We believe that Jesus recognized and instituted two ordinances for the Church:
• Communion - The Lord's Supper
• Water Baptism

Bible references
Acts 2:38, 1 Corinthians 11:23-26, John 2:1-11, Matthew 28:19, Luke 22:19-20, Matthew 19:4-5

We believe in the universal Church

We believe there is one church, the body of Christ, consisting of men and women from every tribe, tongue, people, and nation. We believe that each local congregation is an expression of that universal church.

Bible references
Ephesians 4:4, 1 Corinthians 12:12–13, Revelation 5:9, Acts 2:42–47

We believe the Church has a Mission

We believe that followers of Jesus will commit to His teachings by living intentionally and participating in the proclamation of the gospel and making disciples, who in turn will ‘make disciples of all nations’ (Matthew 28:18-20). We believe the Bible instructs Jesus’ disciples to model His love, humility, and mercy, which demonstrates the gospel through our words and lives.

We believe in the Second Coming of Jesus Christ

We believe in the Second Coming of Jesus Christ which is His personal, bodily, visible return to earth to establish a literal millennial kingdom. We believe His return will usher in a final judgement resulting in eternal blessing for those who have accepted Him as their Saviour and endless separation & judgement for any who reject Him.

Bible references
Acts 1:11, Matthew 16:27, Revelations 19:11-16, Revelations 20:11-15

We believe that Salvation is by Grace

We believe that God knowing our inability to set ourselves free from sin, lovingly provided a perfect payment for our sin by the atoning death of Jesus, His Son, upon the cross. God graciously offers to forgive anyone who is willing to turn from their life of sin and embrace Jesus as their Saviour, trusting upon His sacrifice. We believe that salvation only comes by God’s grace through faith in Jesus ’life, death and resurrection’.

We believe in the eternity of heaven and hell

We believe in a literal Heaven and a literal Hell and that all those who place their faith, hope and trust in Jesus Christ will spend eternity in Heaven with the Lord, while those who reject Jesus’ free gift of salvation will spend eternity separated from the Lord.
